What ARE These Characters ( ) [ ] { } < > Proper Names?

Without getting into a debate about the meaning of the words “proper” or “actual” or “real”. I will attempt to give you the most academically recognized term or word for some coding characters you probably use every day but really don’t know what to call it.

A single one is called a Parenthesis.
Means “to put beside” from the Greek roots par-, -en and thesis.
The use of parentheses in printed English dates back to at least 1572.

Bracket is from the Old Germanic word for pants, breeches.
